What's Here?

So far, not much except statistics on national express East Anglia (formerly 'one railway) punctuality;ics.el, an emacs major mode for communication with Internet Chess Servers; and a page about the Metropolitan Chess Club , one of London's oldest chess clubs.

XHTML Rewrite of www.oakden.org

I decided to rewrite these pages to move from the HTML4.01 Transitional, table-based layout to use XHTML 1.0 with a more modern, CSS-based layout.

Although I am a Mozilla Firefox user at home on my Linux systems, I thought I'd do the due diligence and test the pages afterwards in Microsoft Internet Explorer. This involved learning far more than is healthy about the poor handling of CSS in IE and the numerous hacks which abound to deal with these problems.

The worst of the problems I found are described on a separate page, in case anyone else is having the same problems.

If you are seeing broken layout, then it's more than likely another bug, either in your browser or in my CSS.

Broken Links

I have recently moved my DSL provider from Pipex to Eclipse. If you find any broken internal links it is most likely caused by my having hardwired Pipex into my paths somewhere. If you find any such brokenness, please let me know at mark@oakden.org
